Workhouse, Kettering

This workhouse was built on a Classical Commissioner’s plan, similar to Northampton, between 1837-9, to house 250 inmates at a cost of £5,000. It was altered in 1971 when the raised octagon in the centre was taken down and the front reduced to one storey throughout, with the three bay central pediment lowered. It is now St Mary’s Hospital.
