Washington National Cathedral was designed in 1907 by George Frederick Bodley, the great-granduncle of Elizabeth Scott (Hoare), and a former student of Sir George Gilbert Scott.

In addition to building this Cathedral, Bodley founded Watts & Company with George Gilbert Scott junior in 1874.
