This restoration was begun with Moffatt in 1845 but completed by Sir George Gilbert Scott alone by 1850. The work included the removal of the galleries and renewal of seating in open pews. The cathedral church was destroyed during the Second World War in 1940, and eventually rebuilt as Coventry’s new cathedral.
