St Mary's, Temple Balsall

Originally the chapel of the religious Order of The Knights Hospitallers, it was restored by Sir George Gilbert Scott in 1849. Dating from the thirteenth century, it was largely rebuilt in late thirteenth century style, with Scott adding pinnacles and parapets, raising walls and providing a new roof. The contractor was Broadbent and Hawley. Inside he provided a sedilia and piscina and Gothic organ case. He is also said to have enclosed the nearby timber framed twelfth century aisled hall, which was the Preceptory of the Knights Templar Order, with red brick.
