Sir George Gilbert Scott was a member of the congregation here, close to his house The Grove. In 1860 he added a timber west gallery to the church. As the Illustrated London News commented, ‘…one of the few instances in which a gallery from its exceeding lightness and beauty has rather improved than marred a church’.
